Tampa 'Ride of Silence' to remember bicyclists killed, injured in accidents

Tampa, FL -- The third annual Tampa/Hillsborough Ride of Silence to remember cyclists killed or injured in traffic crashes will be held this Wednesday.  

The ride begins at 6:30 p.m. at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park.

Update: House fire leads to arrest for grow equipment

Palm River, Florida -- Update: It took a total of 11 units and 25 firemen to successfully extinguish a fire at a home on Libby Loop Friday evening, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue officials say.

According to their latest report, the investigator said the fire started because a resident walked next door while in the middle of cooking on the stove. 

Within minutes, the resident returned to find the house on fire, and had to call 911.

Hillsborough County, Florida-- Commissioner Kevin Beckner, District 6, Countywide, is hosting office hours in the community one Wednesday every month for the rest of the year.

According to the commissioner, the office hours will take place in various spots around the county to give residents a chance to meet with him one-on-one and  share ideas and/or  voice concerns without having to travel to County Center in downtown Tampa.

No appointment is necessary and residents are seen on a first-come, first-served basis.

Clearwater, Florida -- From May 12 to May 18, people will have access to job opportunities through an online job fair targeting job seekers ages 14 to 24. 

The hiring event will span a four-county radius including Manatee, Sarasota, Hillsborough and Pinellas. 

“The virtual job fair is an opportunity to connect youth with employment so that they may gain the skills and experience necessary to become successful future members of the workforce,” said Edward Peachey, President and CEO of the Tampa Bay WorkForce Alliance and WorkNet Pinellas.

Mail carriers collect food for Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive!

Carrollwood, Florida - Mail carriers will take part in the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Residents can leave non-perishable food item by their mailbox and the letter carrier will pick it up. The food will be donated to food banks to distribute to needy citizens.

Last year, over 70-million pounds of food was donated across the country.

If you cannot leave food items by your mailbox, you can drop it by your local post office.
