Police: Man offers odd job to boy, ends in sexual battery

Tampa, Florida -- Tampa Police are currently searching for a man they say was responsible for sexually battering a 12-year-old boy. 

On Wednesday, Aug. 8, between noon and 2:20 p.m., police say the man told the victim he'd hire him for an odd job, and instructed the boy to go with him to a vacant home.  Once inside the home, police say the man sexually battered the boy. 

Detectives continue to work leads on the case, but need the public's assistance in finding the suspect. 

No-name write-ins costing Floridians chance to vote

TAMPA BAY, Florida -- Florida state law allows all voters in a district - regardless of party affiliation - to cast ballots in a primary if all candidates for the office are from the same party. 

However, the 10 News Investigators found no-name write-in candidates - many of whom have no intention of even campaigning - have turned a number of "open" primaries into "closed" primaries so the majority of voters won't have a say in who represents them in Tallahassee.

Sexting property appraiser fighting for political life

Tampa, Florida -- There's one race getting the attention of a lot of people--even if they aren't affected by the office--because it involves pornography, sex and allegations of discrimination. 

The race generating interest is for Hillsborough County property appraiser where incumbent Rob Turner is in deep trouble thanks to his personal actions. This time around he is being challenged by State Senator Ronda Storms.

Hillsborough County, Florida-- The Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Office announced the voter turnout for the 2012 Primary Elections as 12.56 percent as of 4:40 p.m. 

The office says turnout is based on actual ballots cast from voters at 30 precincts.

Election night returns will be posted on www.VoteHillsborough.org after the polls close at 7 p.m.

Fire Rescue: Lightning cause of deadly apartment fire

Tampa, Florida -- Hillsborough County Fire Rescue has reported it appears lightning was the cause of the fatal fire at Royal Parc Apartments Monday afternoon.

Authorities say the fire started in the kitchen ceiling of the second-story apartment and significant damage to the electrical system indicates it was lightning.

Don't fall victim to election scams

TAMPA BAY, Florida -- With the election season in full swing, consumers may drop their guard when it comes to scammers seeking victims under the guise of elections organizations.

According to a press release from the Better Business Bureau (BBB), scammers are taking advantage of robocalls offering a free cruise for taking a political survey as well as the promise that President Obama will pay your utility bill.

The BBB put out the following press release warning consumers to be on the lookout for a growing number of scams this fall:

It's Primary Day: The Big Races around Tampa Bay

Tampa, Florida -- The Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections is hoping for a busy day at the polls today.

Based on turnout from early voting and mail in ballots, Earl Lennard tells 10 News more voters have turned out so far during this year's Primary than the 2008 Primary which was also a presidential year.

Turnout so far today is estimated at 8.76% as of 9:30am .  The estimate is based on ballot counts from 30 out of the 347 precincts in the county. By 11:30am, the estimates were up to 9.73%.
