Teen steals identities of 41 people through mom's employer

Tampa, Florida -- A young Tampa man is in big trouble with police after they say he stole the personal information of 41 people from his mother's work computer.

Hillsborough Sheriff's deputies say between Feb. 13 and May 13, Devonte Jackson, 18, went through his mother's Ace Home Care work computer and stole the victims' identification information. He then completed Visa applications using their information and had the cards sent to his friends' homes.

"Bank Bag Bandit" sentenced to 27 years in prison

Tampa, Florida -- A Palm Harbor man, also known as the "Bank Bag Bandit" who committed five armed bank robberies in three counties, was sentenced Monday to 27 years in federal prison in connection with the crimes.

As part of sentence, the United States Attorney's Office says David Dwindell was ordered to forfeit over $13,700, which is traceable to proceeds of the offense and to pay over $38,000 in restitution which is the amount stolen from the banks.

City of Tampa plant worker arrested for sex with minors

Tampa, Florida -- Tampa Police have arrested a man they say engaged in sexual acts multiple underage girls he took advantage of.

Tampa Police say a co-worker of 68-year-old Demetrio Rivera had recently notified a supervisor that Rivera was possibly engaging in illegal activity. The City's Human Resources Department then contacted police and an investigation was launched.

An undercover detective started as a new employee and a co-worker of Rivera's to establish a relationship with him. 

Suspect turns himself in for fatal Tampa food store shooting

Tampa, Florida -- Hillsborough Sheriff's detectives have obtained an arrest warrant for the man wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of Osh Williams outside the Snack Attack Food Store in Northeast Tampa Sunday.

Detectives say a witness told them 22-year-old Rodney Speights went to the store to confront and fight Williams as retribution for a fight Williams had been in the day before on March 23.

Cops: Suspects steal $100,000 in cigars, tobacco

Tampa, Florida-- Hillsborough County Sheriff's detectives are currently on the lookout for four suspects involved in a business burglary involving over $100,000 in stolen tobacco products. 

According to reports, Good Times Tobacco surveillance footage shot between March 9 and March 11 shows the burglary from start to finish.

It reportedly started when two of the four suspects pulled up to the business' locked gate in a 1992 - 2007 white, Ford E-250, and got out to cut the lock.

Detectives see spike in new credit card machine skimmers

Tampa, Florida -- Tampa Police say for several years they've seen skimmers on credit card machines, but recently, detectives have seen a spike in key logging devices on computers on business credit card machines.

Detectives say these logging devices look similar to a flash drive that captures all customer credit card information, and many business owners don't even notice they've been breached as criminals insert the device without them knowing.

Crime down in Hillsborough County

Hillsborough County, Florida -- The Hillsborough County Sheriff's office has released that crime in Hillsborough County is down 53.2% since 2007. 

For the sixth straight year, deputies have reduced overall crime in Hillsborough County. With a population in unincorporated Hillsborough County of more than 800,000 residents, the number of victims of  crimes was also reduced from 21,617 in 2011 to 20,072 in 2012. This violent crime rate is the lowest since recording started in 1985.
