Police arrest City of Tampa employee | Crime
Tampa, FL -- Tampa police arrested a city employee Tuesday after he received money to help pick up illegally dumped yard waste while on the job.
According to police, a witness called 911 on Tuesday at 11:34 a.m. to report a pick-up truck dumping yard waste at a vacant lot on 4706 E. 18th Avenue in Tampa.
Moments later, City of Tampa Solid Waste trucks arrived and an employee picked up the waste while under Dwight D. Rivera's supervision.
A detective later interviewed Rivera who admitted to police accepting $40 from a friend who has a hauling business. Police say Rivera told the friend to dump the yard waste in the lot where he later had his crew pick it up.
Rivera,45, works as a Specialty Equipment Operator, but was acting in a supervisory position at the time.
He was arrested and taken to Hillsborough County Jail where he was charged with Unlawful Compensation or Reward for Official Behavior.
Detectives are investigating to determine if there were other incidents involving Rivera.
