It was a beautiful night for football at Spoto High School in Tampa as the Spartans played host to the Gibbs Gladiators on Friday.
Both teams scored long touchdowns early in the first quarter, but it was Gibbs that hung on to win it, 19-13.
The home Spartans picked up an 84-yard touchdown strike from Quarterback Jaylon Davis to Geronimo Robinson to make it 6-0. That one happened on the very first offensive play of the game. The Gladiators returned the favor with a bomb from Vonte White to Gary Simon to tie it at 6 in the first quarter.
There were plenty of penalties and mistakes to go around. Spoto quarterback Jaylon Davis tossed an interception to Maurice Hall, who ran it back for the go ahead touchdown. Gibbs scored one more time, a 6-yard beauty to Gary Simon, and the visiting Gladiators upended the Spoto Spartans, 19-13 the final.
